 | This logo design incorporates many key elements in representing the MacDonald Cup. The "Red Maple Leaf" represents "Canada", the "Mountains" represents British Columbia and the Rockies, accented within the red leaf. The artwork was designed by Coast Salish/Nuu-chah-nulth/Kwakwaka'wakw artist Yul Baker. Yul carries two traditional names: one from the Kwakwaka'wakw (Walla-bossa-ma), and one from the Nuu-chah-nulth (Ge-mock-soth). He is an avid athlete, and won a World Championship in lacrosse with the Rochester Nighthawks in 1997. Yul has been working as an artist since 2003, and has trained with Kwakwaka'wakw artist Klatle-Bhi and Coast Salish/Tlingit artist Ray Natrall. He primarily carves masks in red and yellow cedar. In February 2008, Yul graduated from the Northwest Coast Jewellery Arts Program at Vancouver's Native Education College, which was led by Haida/Kwakwaka’wakw artist Dan Wallace. |
